Need urgent help on credit card theft!?

Well, it seems that someone got a hold of my parents debit card, and ordering stuff left and right.

We canceled the card, but it was reactivated for some reason and we still don%26#039;t know why.

The police don%26#039;t really seem to care, the bank basically said they don%26#039;t care, the would refund our money though..

On top of that, when we call the places that they ordered from, we could not get the IP address of the person who ordered the items to %26quot;protect%26quot; us....

What can we do? This is driving our family mad =(

go to the bank and demand they immediately address the issue. have them close the account if they can%26#039;t get it right but any funds lost since you reported it you need to hold them responsible for. i believe in most states if you report the loss then the most they can hold you liable for is $50.00. if the police have given you some attitude i would ask to speak with a supervisor and report the person who seems to not care about this crime.

since this was done over the Internet contact the Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3). The IC3 is a partnership between the FBI and the National White Collar Crime Center. The IC3 gives victims of Internet crime an easy way to report Internet crime to local, state, federal, and

international authorities. To contact the IC3, go to:

A debit card is assigned to a checking account, so close that account, and open a new one, and you get another debit card. Once you close the old account, the card is no longer any good.

Unfortunately, unless your bank has said otherwise, I believe you are actually liable for something like $500, $50 is for credit cards. I would take issue with the bank first of all, since they have allowed the account to be reactivated. I would also look into get a credit report and looking over it to make sure there are no credit cards or anything else opened up in your name that you have no idea about. I was amazed when a bunch of coworkers and I had credit checks done on us how much identity theft had occurred and it is a huge pain to fix. Best of luck.
