How do I prevent this from getting on my credit report or get it removed if it already is?

Verizon sent me a $90 bill back in early October that was incorrect. I called them to question it and they agreed it was wrong and told me they would send a corrected version. In November I got another bill from them for -$2.45 so I thought it was taken care of. We got the $90 bill again in December and called again. Again, they agreed it needed to be adjusted and sent us a the adjusted bill ($50) in mid-December which I just paid last week. Two days ago I got the -$2.45 bill again and yesterday I received a letter from a collection agency saying we still owed the $50. When we talked to them in December they said the $50 charge was for a phone installation and the -$2.45 was a refund for the actual service that we cancelled; the re-issued December bill was the first one where the charges were itemized so it was clear. Is this now on our credit report and if so, how do we get it off? Verizon didn%26#039;t even get us the correct bill sent until mid-December.

The first thing you want to do is contact the collection agency, they can tell you if its been reported to your credit report, because they are the ones that actually do the reporting NOT verizon, then you want to work with them, send them copies and any proof that you have that you have paid this bill in full and they will remove it if it is already on your credit score within 30 days and it will no longer have a negative impact on your credit score, however, the collection agency is going to be your best bet, since Verizon has turned it over to them verizon now will refer you to the agency handling it instead of discussing it with you and if the collection agency finds that you have paid it they will take it out of collections and you%26#039;ll be fine.

Only way to know for sure is to pull your credit report and see if it%26#039;s on there.

You%26#039;d have to pull your credit report and see. Something similar happened to me with Cellular One several years ago and I still owe them like $700, but its not on my report so they aren%26#039;t going to see a dime. :)

Verizon is quick to report things to your credit. Get all your credit reports out and see. If it is, dispute it, and start getting names from people who are telling you things at Verizon. Is the account closed? If so, it may help to do correspondence through the mail, that way you have those so called errors in writing. Always keep a copy of anything done by mail concerning these matters.

Same thing happened with me and Sprint 6 years ago. The $123 charge was an error that Sprint was to fix, and I received bills for it months and countless phone calls later. I was not on a contract, and they would send me a phone bill for a phone I disconnected and paid in full! They admitted the error, but still charged me! It appeared on one of my credit reports. I quickly disputed it, and it was removed completely within a month. I will never do business with them again! Just make sure you have a paper trail. I had proof of my final bill stating I owed $0.

Good Luck!

That is false. It does not hurt your credit if YOU view it. That is called a %26quot;soft brush%26quot; and you can view your credit as often as you want. This kind of misleading information is why so many people are unaware what IS on their credit. Check out your credit report at least 1-2 times a year.
